In the same way that Dub Syndicate started as a typically enigmatic On-U studio collective and over time became the main musical vehicle for Style Scott; so African Head Charge morphed from Adrian Sherwood’s initial impetus into the creative vision of Bonjo Iyabinghi Noah, still going strong to this day. The title track of their fourth album, "Off The Beaten Track" heralded a sonic departure from previous AHC releases in the way that it utilised newly discovered sampling technology, evidenced here by the incongruous gypsy violin loop coming in and out of the deep On-U rhythmic pulse. This combination of dub, psychedelia and ethnic sounds was developed further on subsequent African Head Charge releases, most notably 1990's game-changing Songs Of Praise.
