about

Emerging from the fertile Manchester DIY scene of the late 70s and led by the nomadic Michael Wadada, Suns Of Arqa have pioneered their own blend of world music, ambient and dub. Invited by Peter Gabriel to play the first WOMAD festival in 1982, they continue to record and perform, and have collaborated with an eclectic array of musicians including Prince Far I and John Cooper Clarke. "Asian Rebel" was re-versioned from a track Adrian Sherwood produced for the debut Suns Of Arqa album, Revenge Of The Mozabites, released on the band's own Rock Steady label. It included several re-worked Creation Rebel rhythms, including an SOA version of “Mountain Melody” from the Rebel Vibrations album. Revenge Of The Mozabites also featured contributions from On-U band The Mothmen, whose Pay Attention! LP has recently been reissued on On-U Sound and is recommended to all fans of adventurous post-punk.
