Some of the most dystopian dub sounds ever laid down on tape, the Warzone album by Missing Brazilians seethes with mid-80s cold war menace. The appropriately titled “Quicksand Beach Party” sums up the vibe of doomed hedonism, an evocative keyboard melody by Kishi disappearing underneath a ricocheting beatbox and waves of overloaded circuits. Kishi incidentally now has a successful career as a producer of news and current affairs. Her brilliant photography and design work defines the early aesthetic of On-U Sound in a symbiotic relationship with the utterly unique music.
